Make your own Lo-Fi Longwave, the official KritzKast hat. These instructions, together with a 3D printer and a hard hat, will allow you to create your very own Lo-Fi Longave, in real life!
Included are the parts lists, with links to where you might find them along side instructional notes for the 3D print.
Build Instructions Overview
This build was created in collaboration with, ImmortalKing, Mel and Agro. The hard hat was scanned then the in-game files were modified to fit it. Expect some amount of prototyping for your own hat.
No advanced electronics experience is required, but knowledge of basic drilling and soldering skills are recommended.
Please read the IMPORTANT final notes at the end of this document.

Assembly Instructions
Print the tower structure using the provided 3D files.
Our test build was printed from PA6CF30 Filament by Polymaker.
Infill 15%, adjustable up to 100% (for max strength).
The antenna ball is designed to be screwed on the tower structure.
Print this from transparent filament for LED.
Print temperature depends on filament and material.
If your'e using electronics, after printing, poke a hole in the top of the tower, and the foot with the hollow leg to allow access the the wire passthrough.

Position the antenna
Place the printed antenna on top of the helmet.
The antenna is ported from the original TF2 files. Helmet is scanned and antenna is made to fit the helmet’s profile, so it should sit flush when centered correctly.
Check reference images to ensure correct orientation.
Temporarily secure the antenna
Once centred, use masking tape to secure the antenna feet to the helmet. Mark out their placement with non-permanent marker.
(Optional LED)
Drill out wire pass through holes located near the foot of one leg and where the LED cable is housed. Drill hole in the hat such that the foot will obscure it when in position.
Secure the feet
SuperGlue a magnet into each of the antena's feet. The magnets should sit very slightly proud of the underside of the feet.
Sit another set of magnets under the hat's plastic such that the antena stays in place. Once you are happy with the placement glue the magnets in place under the hat.
Alternatives:
Other fastening methods are available. From experience wearing this hat, you may find doorways become a hazard. Let us know if you find a better way of attaching your tower.
Apply the Kritzkast logo
This is available as a die-cut sticker in KritzKast store in both Classic and Contemporary styles. Check the space availble on your hat.
Should you wish to print your own, both logo files are provided.
Optional electronics
Solder the LED to the flasher circuit according to the LED flasher circuit reference. Connect the circuit to the 9 V battery.
Using the potentiometers on the LED flasher circuit, adjust the flash rate and intensity to your preference.
Mount electronics inside the helmet. Use 3M 4mm double-sided foam tape to secure the flasher board and battery inside the helmet.
IMPORTANT final notes
- This build is intended for cosplay, display, or fun projects
- The hard hat may not be suitable for it's original purpose after transforming it into a Lo-Fi Longwave
- Always use PPE
- Duck under doorways
